About the role  

We're seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor to join our team. In this key role, you'll ensure our community's buildings meet all safety and compliance standards while providing expert guidance to stakeholders. You'll work closely with the Municipal Building Surveyor and the team to enforce regulations, manage risks, and improve our building services. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Assess and process building permit applications, ensuring compliance with the Building Act and relevant regulations 

  • Conduct thorough inspections and issue notices/orders when required 

  • Provide specialist technical advice to Council staff, builders, and the community 

  • Respond to building complaints and enforcement matters promptly and professionally 

  • Participate in emergency management planning and after-hours response 

  • Assist in developing operational policies and budgets 

  • Mentor and support team members, fostering their professional growth 

  • Represent Council at community meetings and stakeholder forums 

What we are looking for

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in building surveying or related field 

  • Solid experience in building surveying and regulatory compliance 

  • Strong understanding of the Building Act and regulations relevant legislation 

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a practical approach 

  • Outstanding communication skills for dealing with diverse stakeholders 

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines 

  • Leadership experience in guiding team members or potential to guide team members
