About the team

The Rates team is responsible for managing the collection of property rates from residents and businesses within the municipality. This involves a range of activities, including calculating property valuations, issuing rate notices, processing payments, and managing rate arrears. The team also provides support to residents and businesses with inquiries related to their rates, assists them with payment arrangements, and ensures compliance with relevant legislation.

About the role:

The Rates Coordinator provides essential support to the Team Leader in managing the day-to-day operations of the Rates Team. This role is pivotal in ensuring all rating functions adhere to relevant legislation, Council policies, and best practices. The coordinator fosters a customer-centric environment, promotes continuous improvement within the team, and aligns team activities with organisational priorities.

Other Responsibilities include

  • Manage and support the Rates Officers and Revenue & Collections Officer with all rates workflows and duties.
  • Assist in the raising, monitoring, and collecting rates revenue.
  • Be the primary escalation point for any ratepayer queries and complaints.
  • Ensure that the rates and property database is maintained accurately to enable effective collection of rates and other charges and efficient administration of the Department.

What You’ll Bring

  • Good data entry skills, intermediate-level capability in Microsoft Excel, and strong systems knowledge – Pathway UX system knowledge and experience would be highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience working effectively within a team environment, providing support to the team leader and demonstrating the ability to provide direction, guidance, and support to other team members to enhance team knowledge and skills
  • Well-developed communication skills in order to communicate effectively and gain cooperation and assistance from all levels within the organisation.
  • Demonstrated high degree of initiative and flexibility, along with strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to proactively initiate and effectively respond to change.
  • Advance Knowledge and understanding of Local Government.
