About the role:

As a Senior Building Surveyor, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding our Building Team to deliver top-notch statutory and regulatory services, all while ensuring compliance with the Building Act, Building Regulations, and other key legislation.
You’ll be the go-to expert, providing specialist advice to Council, ratepayers, applicants, and stakeholders, and supporting the Municipal Building Surveyor to build strong relationships and deliver exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver top tier building surveying services, ensuring our community benefits from competitive, responsive, and well-marketed solutions.
  • Step up as the expert in enforcement—conduct inspections, tackle illegal building works, and uphold the highest standards set by the Building Act.
  • Play a key role in administrating building notices and orders, supporting the Municipal Building Surveyor.
  • Provide expert guidance and foster a collaborative, innovative environment where problem-solving and continuous improvement thrive.
  • Coordinate building permit assessments, mandatory inspections, and the issuing of occupancy permits or certificates, ensuring every project meets the mark.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in building surveying (or equivalent) backed by several year of hands-on experience as a practicing Building Surveyor
  • Current registration as a Building Practitioner (Building Surveyor) with the Building Practitioner’s Board in Victoria
  • Solid understanding of the Building Act, local laws, and relevant codes and standards.
  • Ability to guide, mentor, and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Proven experience in developing innovative processes and driving continuous improvement.
  • Sound interpersonal skills for building positive relationships with the community, builders, and Council staff.
  • Skilled at managing building permit processes, inspections, and enforcement actions, keeping projects moving smoothly and safely.
