About the role:

As General Manager Community Strengthening, you will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction, driving the delivery of high-quality services that make a real difference to the lives of our residents. You will ensure our organisation operates with integrity, transparency, and a strong customer focus, while fostering a culture of trust, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Under our current structure, the role oversees x departments:

  • Access Care (aged care & disability services)
  • Arts, Events & Libraries
  • Family, Youth & Children’s Services
  • Inclusive Communities

What you’ll deliver                       

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and governance requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate the management of human, physical, and financial resources to achieve organisational goals.
  • Oversee strategic planning and budgeting, including the development of the Council Plan and Budget, and contribute to high-level organisational decision-making.
  • Gather and interpret data to generate insights that enhance customer understanding and service delivery.
  • Provide clear direction and inspire teams to achieve outstanding results and deliver exceptional community services.
  • Build strong relationships with Councillors, staff, and the community, fostering trust and confidence at all levels.
  • Model and communicate the organisation’s vision and values, ensuring they are embedded in all activities.
  • Engage with the community to understand needs, represent the organisation at events, and ensure services are responsive and inclusive.
  • Drive continuous improvement by leading service reviews and implementing innovative solutions for the community.

You are a highly skilled and experienced leader with a proven track record in strategic management, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement.

You excel in building high-performing teams, driving change, and delivering results that matter to the community. Your strong communication skills, commitment to compliance, and customer-focused mindset set you apart as a leader who makes a real impact

You will also have

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in community/social planning or health/social services (postgraduate or MBA preferred), reflecting a broad and relevant skillset. 
  • Proven skills in managing and developing a diverse, multidisciplinary workforce.
  • Senior management experience in local government or not-for-profit, with proven leadership, business management, and staff development skills.
