      • Permanent part time position, 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE)

      • $81,188 - $93,494 per annum (pro rata) plus superannuation
      • Location: Predominantly Parkdale, Clarinda and Westall libraries, with work across all Kingston library sites as required

      Kingston Libraries is part of the Arts, Events and Libraries Department and delivers welcoming, inclusive and contemporary library services that support learning, connection and wellbeing across the municipality.

      Our library network includes eight branches, with a strong focus on customer service, literacy, digital inclusion and community engagement. Librarians play a key role in shaping positive experiences for everyone who visits and uses our libraries.

      About this opportunity

      We are seeking a qualified and customer-focused Librarian to join Kingston Libraries on a permanent part-time basis.

      In this role, you will deliver front-line library services, provide information and reader advisory support, and actively contribute to creating safe, respectful and engaging library environments. You will regularly act as the senior librarian on duty, providing leadership on the floor, allocating tasks, supporting staff, and responding to complex customer behaviour, including de-escalation where required.

      * This position involves working Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, including one late night every second Tuesday, as well as one in four Saturdays and one in eight Sundays

      What you’ll deliver

      • Deliver high-quality customer service through information, circulation and reader advisory duties
      • Act as senior librarian on duty, leading customer service operations, allocating tasks and supporting staff
      • Respond confidently to complex customer situations, including de-escalation, in line with organisational procedures
      • Promote library collections, services, programs and events that support literacy and digital literacy
      • Educate customers on library resources, technology, facilities and equipment
      • Undertake administrative and operational tasks to support efficient library operations
      • Work collaboratively across branches to ensure a consistent and positive customer experience

      Your skills and experience

      You will bring:

      • A tertiary qualification in library and information studies (Degree, Masters or Graduate Diploma, eligible for ALIA Associate membership)
      • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills in a front-facing environment
      • Strong digital literacy and confidence supporting customers with technology
      • Ability to supervise, guide and support staff as senior on duty
      • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
      • A positive, resilient and calm approach when working with diverse customers and situations
      • Experience working effectively as part of a team across multiple locations
