About the Team

Join a collaborative team that supports Council's compliance and enforcement functions across areas including Local Laws, Animal Management, Environmental Health, Vegetation Compliance, Municipal Building Surveyor and City Development.

About the Role

As Prosecutions Coordinator, you will lead Council's prosecution function, managing matters from investigation through to court and tribunal outcomes. You will represent Council in Courts of summary jurisdiction, VCAT and the Building Appeals Board, while providing practical advice and support to Council officers on enforcement and compliance matters.

This role requires strong legal, advocacy and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory matters and deliver successful outcomes.

What You'll Deliver

  • Represent Council in courts and tribunals as its prosecutor.
  • Prepare and manage prosecution documentation, briefs of evidence, charge sheets and summonses.
  • Provide advice and guidance on compliance, enforcement and prosecution matters.
  • Review evidence and investigation reports to ensure legal and statutory requirements are met.
  • Support and advise Authorised Officers to strengthen prosecution outcomes.
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, legal representatives and external agencies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, reporting and policy development.

Your Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience in prosecutions, investigations, enforcement or regulatory compliance
  • Strong working knowledge of court and tribunal processes and legal documentation
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation in a practical and effective way
  • Experience preparing and reviewing briefs of evidence and prosecution matters
  • Strong advocacy and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and accurate advice
  • Sound judgement and the ability to manage complex and sensitive matters

Qualifications

  • A law degree and admission as an Australian Solicitor (highly advantageous) with several years of relevant experience, or
  • A degree or diploma in a legal or justice fields with extensive relevant experience.
