About the role:

As a Senior Building Surveyor, you’ll lead a dedicated team to deliver reliable, efficient, and compliant building surveying services under the Building Act, Building Regulations, and related legislation.

You’ll provide expert regulatory and technical advice to Council, ratepayers and other stakeholders, while mentoring staff and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver responsive, compliant, and customer-focused building surveying services
  • Inspect building works and assist with building notices and orders in accordance with legislation
  • Provide specialist advice to staff, builders, and the community on statutory and technical matters
  • Mentor and support team members to promote collaboration, innovation and in gaining building surveyor/inspector registration 
  • Participate in after-hours on-call duties on a rostered basis
  • Represent Council professionally, building strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders

Your Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in building surveying (or equivalent) with extensive experience as a practicing Building Surveyor
  • Registration as a Building Practitioner in the category of Building Surveyor with the Building and Plumbing Commission
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
  • Solid understanding of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Australian Standards, and other related legislation
  • Proven capacity for problem-solving, decision-making, and innovation in developing effective processes
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
