The City of Kingston is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Youth Development Officer to join our Youth Services team as we embark on a new and refreshed model of youth services. This exciting new role will work alongside young people, community organisations, schools and key stakeholders to design and deliver innovative programs, projects and initiatives that support young people aged 10-25 years to thrive.

Working within a youth participation framework, you will help ensure young people are actively involved in shaping decisions, services and opportunities that affect their lives while contributing to positive wellbeing, inclusion and community outcomes.

There are multiple roles available, with portfolio focus areas assigned to each, please indicate any preference in your application.

  • Entrepreneurship and Pathways (part time)
  • Leadership (part time)

About the Role

As a Youth Development Officer, you will:

  • Facilitate meaningful youth participation and engagement opportunities.
  • Design, coordinate and evaluate innovative youth programs and initiatives.
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, community and local services.
  • Research emerging youth trends and identify opportunities for service innovation.
  • Support young people through strengths-based initiatives, information, advocacy and referral.
  • Contribute to the implementation of Kingston's Youth Strategy and Action Plan.
  • Assist with grant opportunities, partnerships and community development initiatives.
  • Promote youth programs and increase participation across Kingston.

About You

You are someone who:

  • Has experience working in youth services, community development or a related field.
  • Understands youth participation, co-design and strengths-based practice.
  • Is skilled at engaging and building relationships with diverse young people and communities.
  • Can design, deliver and evaluate programs that respond to community needs.
  • Enjoys collaborating with stakeholders and developing community partnerships.
  • Brings creativity, initiative and a solutions-focused mindset.
  • Is committed to inclusion, equity, child safety and positive outcomes for young people.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Development or a related discipline
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Victorian Driver Licence
  • National Criminal History Check (or willingness to obtain)
