Are you passionate about working directly with young people and creating opportunities that support their wellbeing, participation and development?

The City of Kingston is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Youth Program Officer to join our Youth Services team as we embark on a new and refreshed model of youth services.

In this rewarding role, you will facilitate youth programs, activities and events that provide safe, welcoming and engaging opportunities for young people aged 10-25 years to connect, develop skills, have their voices heard and actively participate in community life.

Working within a youth participation framework, you will build positive relationships with young people, deliver innovative programs and contribute to creating a community where young people feel valued, connected and empowered.

About the Role

As a Youth Program Officer, you will:

  • Deliver and facilitate youth development programs, activities, events and initiatives.
  • Create safe, inclusive and engaging environments for young people.
  • Support youth participation, youth voice and youth-led initiatives.
  • Build positive relationships with young people and encourage ongoing engagement.
  • Provide strengths-based information, support, advocacy and referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, community organisations and local services.
  • Promote youth programs and participation opportunities across Kingston.
  • Contribute to program evaluation, continuous improvement and positive outcomes for young people.

About You

You are someone who:

  • Has experience working directly with young people in youth services, community, education or related settings.
  • Enjoys facilitating groups, activities and programs.
  • Can build genuine and respectful relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understands youth participation and strengths-based approaches.
  • Is confident responding to the needs of young people and connecting them with appropriate supports.
  • Brings energy, creativity and enthusiasm to program delivery.
  • Values inclusion, collaboration and continuous learning.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services or a related discipline (or currently working towards).
  • Experience delivering youth programs, activities or services.
  • Experience applying youth participation, strengths-based and inclusive practice approaches.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Victorian Driver Licence (or ability to obtain).
