About the team

Our Finance team is a dynamic and collaborative group dedicated to delivering accurate financial reporting. We work closely with stakeholders across the organisation to ensure financial integrity and support key decision-making. About the role

As Senior Financial Accountant, you'll ensure accurate and efficient financial accounting services for the Council, maintaining data integrity and compliance with accounting standards. You'll manage key financial accounting areas and deliver timely, high-quality reporting and analysis.

Other Responsibilities include:                          

  • Manage the preparation of accurate and timely Annual Financial Statements and input to the Annual Performance Statement, ensuring legislative compliance and resolving complex accounting issues.
  • Review and report financial information using data analytics to provide recommendations for effective internal controls and financial sustainability.
  • Prepare and review financial transactions, complete monthly and quarterly reconciliations, and manage month-end financial accounting processes.
  • Provide high-quality financial advice and support to senior management, including ad-hoc reporting and review of financial results.
  • Collaborate with the Asset Management team to oversee asset accounting processes, including depreciation, capitalisation, and revaluation of financial asset registers.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary Qualification in accounting and CPA Australia / ICAA membership.
  • Significant postgraduate experience in financial accounting and reporting.
  • Experience in the local government environment.
  • Detailed accounting knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex financial information.
  • Proficiency in financial software and computer applications.
