Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place (DWGP) is a culturally safe space that supports First Nations people to connect with community, culture and Country through community-led programs, events and activities. Located in Mordialloc, DWGP plays an important role in strengthening cultural identity, social inclusion and wellbeing for the local First Nations community. 

Please note: Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply for this position under the Special Measure Provision, Section 12(1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2011 (Vic).

We are looking for a Coordinator Derrimut Weelam Gathering Place to lead the delivery of programs and activities at DWGP and strengthen engagement with the local First Nations community. Working closely with the DWGP Steering Committee, you will coordinate culturally safe initiatives, build strong partnerships and support the ongoing growth and sustainability of the Gathering Place. This role also includes supervising and supporting staff to ensure effective team delivery.

What you’ll deliver                        

  • Coordinate and deliver community-led programs, events and activities aligned with the DWGP Strategic Plan
  • Build strong relationships with First Nations community members, organisations and stakeholders
  • Support and work closely with the DWGP Steering Committee
  • Promote and advocate for the ongoing growth and sustainability of DWGP, including identifying funding opportunities
  • Lead and support staff, including workload coordination and day-to-day guidance

Your Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures and experience working effectively with First Nations communities
  • Strong community development, project management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience coordinating programs, events and community consultation activities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and partnership building
  • Relevant qualifications in Social Sciences, Communications or a related field are desirable
