About the team

The Governance, Risk and Integrity Team leads, drives, guides and supports our organisation to achieve best practice governance through the governance cornerstones of Leadership and Direction, Accountability, Integrity and Transparency.

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Council Governance Officer to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting Council operations, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, and driving best practice in governance.

Other Responsibilities include:                          

  • Deliver expert governance support by applying and developing innovative techniques, ensuring compliance with the Local Government Act 2020 and related legislation, and maintaining high professional standards under tight deadlines.
  • Communicate and advocate effectively with Councillors, senior management, staff, residents, government agencies, and community groups, conveying complex issues clearly and representing Council policy to gain cooperation.
  • Adapt and problem-solve in a dynamic environment by rapidly assessing situations, making sound judgments, and refining processes to respond to internal political and external regulatory changes.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture by building strong relationships, resolving conflicts constructively, and demonstrating self-awareness and emotional intelligence across all levels of the organisation.
  • Apply advanced technical skills in office software, meeting platforms, financial management, and document management systems to support efficient and effective Council operations.

Your Skills and Experience

  • High level of proficiency in office software, meeting platforms, agenda management software and document management systems
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organisational, and decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth, inclusion, and community service
  • Proven experience in a governance, compliance or similar role within local government or a comparable environment (desirable)
  • Solid understanding of the Local Government Act 2020 and related legislation (desirable)
