Join the Traffic and Transport team at Kingston City Council’s delivering traffic engineering, transport planning and road safety initiatives that support a safe, connected and sustainable community.

About the role

This casual role provides university students with practical experience in local government traffic engineering and transport planning.

You will contribute to a range of activities that support planning, analysis, and delivery of transport and road safety initiatives, while receiving guidance from experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will

  • Assist with traffic investigations and respond to customer service requests under guidance from senior staff
  • Contribute to the assessment of planning application referrals and traffic management plans
  • Assist with transport planning initiatives, including walking, cycling and sustainable transport projects
  • Support community engagement activities including consultation and surveys
  • Contribute to road safety education programs and transport infrastructure projects

Your skills and experience 

Essential

  • Current enrolment in a degree in engineering, urban planning, transport planning or a related discipline
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally
  • Ability to organise work, manage time, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a team

Desirable

  • Exposure to or coursework in traffic engineering or transport planning
  • Understanding of community-focused or public sector environments
