Library Officer (permanent part-time)

  • Customer service duties in a busy and diverse public library service
  • Based at Cheltenham Library, but working across multiple library sites as required, including weekdays, evenings and weekends
  • Support and build a positive customer experience for everyone who visits and engages with Kingston Libraries
  • Permanent part-time position 
  • Library Band 4, $72,223-$76,938, per annum, pro-rata, plus superannuation

The Arts, Events and Libraries Department at the City of Kingston is focused on the delivery of industry leading contemporary programs, activities, and events. The City of Kingston Library Service operates eight public library branches, with major sites at Chelsea, Cheltenham, Parkdale and Westall, and minor sites at Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett, and Patterson Lakes.

 

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic library officer to join the Kingston Libraries team on a permanent part time basis.

Reporting to the Cheltenham Branch Coordinator, your role is to:

  • Represent Kingston Libraries as the face of our library service and perform duties in a manner that exceeds expectations of both customers and the team
  • Undertake rostered customer service shifts in a team environment across all library sites, including weekdays, weekends and evenings, performing a range of tasks that support customers and our community
  • Actively promote services, events and programs that support literacy and digital literacy development across the Library Service
  • Actively educate users on new and existing library facilities, collections, resources, technology and equipment
  • Undertake a range of administrative tasks to ensure that the libraries operate efficiently

 

About you

You will have:

  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills – experience of customer service in a library environment preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a team
  • Demonstrated skills in supporting digital literacy in the community
  • A keen interest and curiosity in new technologies and their applications in libraries
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A positive, enthusiastic and resilient attitude for working with diverse customers and staff in a front-facing team environment
  • A current driver’s license and a reliable comprehensively insured motor vehicle (role requires you to move from one site to another during the day)
  • Ability to demonstrate the City of Kingston’s values of;

This is a permanent part-time position, working 28hrs per week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays), plus weekends in addition to this.
