About us

Kingston Council’s collective focus is on delivering exceptional service that achieves our vision and meets community expectations.

We are an inclusive, resilient community with a thriving economy, where we all share a safe, sustainable environment. The City of Kingston is south-east of Melbourne and is approximately 20km from Melbourne's CBD. We employ over 1,600 people in a diverse range of roles including engineering, customer service, administration, finance, family, youth and children's services, sport and recreation, health, parks and gardens, planning, arts and management.

Kingston Active helps keep our Kingston community active at Waves Leisure Centre. Our Centre has a range of wet and dry programs and activities to suit the entire community. From our popular Learn to Swim Program right through to our Plus 55 Fitness Classes - there’s something for everyone at Waves.

The role

City of Kingston, Waves Leisure Centre is currently recruiting for qualified Lifeguards to join our Operations team. You will utilise your experience in pool life-guarding techniques and customer service to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the community.

Our lifeguards are an integral part of our team and are required to be focused and capable of responding quickly to emergency situations. We are recipients of the Life Saving Victoria. Platinum Pool Award and we promote safety and enjoyment including the Watch Around the Water program.

Lifeguards are required to educate the community, enforce our Watch Around the Water policy and provide exceptional customer service at all times. As part of our customer focused team, your ability to establish friendly and professional relationships with our members and provide accurate information on all services available at the Centre will be essential to your success.

About you

You must hold a current Pool Lifeguard award; a Level 2 First Aid certificate and a Working with Children check. You will also be required to undertake a Police check. In addition to these accreditations, you will have demonstrated high standards of initiative, safety awareness and customer service.

You must have a flexible attitude and be available to work various hours including weekends, mornings and evenings.

What we can offer

This is a casual position.

As an employee of the City of Kingston you will be part of an inclusive culture and have access to ongoing professional development and a range of employee benefits designed to promote a positive work/life balance including flexible working arrangements, wellbeing initiatives, discounted gym membership, social club events, paid parental leave, study/development assistance, employee assistance program (EAP) and discounted health insurance.

How to Apply

Kingston City Council is an equal opportunity employer, committed to being a child safe organisation and to reconciliation. We are dedicated to attracting, retaining, and developing our people regardless of gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, and age. Applications are encouraged from all sectors of the community, and we strongly encourage applications from the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community. We support adjustments throughout the recruitment and selection process, as well as during employment.

Don’t meet every single requirement for this role? Studies have shown women and those of underrepresented groups are less likely to apply for roles unless they meet every criterion. At Kingston Council, we recognise that different experiences make for great community outcomes. If you are excited about this role, but your experience doesn’t perfectly align to the criteria we encourage you to submit your application.
