About us

Kingston City Council’s collective focus is on delivering exceptional service that achieves our vision and meets community expectations.

We are an inclusive, resilient community with a thriving economy, where we all share a safe, sustainable environment. The City of Kingston is south-east of Melbourne and is approximately 20km from Melbourne's CBD. We employ over 1,500 people in a diverse range of roles including engineering, customer service, administration, finance, family, youth and children's services, sport and recreation, health, parks and gardens, planning, arts, and management.

The role

We are seeking a new team member to join our Injury Management Advisors in the Health and Safety team.

It is a two day a week equivalent position working a 7-month fixed term role until 28 February 2025. This position will be focused on delivering specific projects for the team. Reporting to the Team Leader Health and Safety, the role will:

  • Visit teams and departments across a variety of Council worksites (within Kingston) to observe and assess physical work activities.
  • Review Job Task Analysis and work activities where manual work is undertaken.
  • Complete manual handling risk assessments to understand the nature of the job tasks and completing documentation to record the details and the support mechanisms in place.
  • Assist the Health & Safety Team with the day-to-day safety and injury management activities and implementing the WHS strategic plan.

About you

With your strong communication skills, you will enjoy adding value by using your broad background experience in allied health and/or injury management.  You will also have the ability to work in a small but influential team and in improving the health and safety of Council staff.

Your experience in understanding manual handling, ergonomics and human physiology will assist you in completing these projects.

Given the project nature of this role, we are accepting applications from individuals who may not have all the mandatory requirements. Our focus is on applicants who have qualifications and/or experience in understanding and applying manual handling, ergonomics and/or human physiology principles.

What we can offer

This is a parental leave coverage position, working flexibility for the equivalent of two days week, until 28 February 2024.

The role is based at the Cheltenham office but requires daily travel to other Council sites within Kingston. We work in a modern open flexi-desk workspace. Our office is within close walking distance to public transport including Cheltenham train station and free parking is available. This role offers flexible working days, start and finish times, including the opportunity for some remote hybrid working.

As an employee of the Kingston City Council, you will be part of an inclusive culture and have access to ongoing professional development and a range of employee benefits designed to promote a positive work/life balance including flexible working arrangements, wellbeing initiatives, discounted gym membership, social club events, paid parental leave, salary packaging, study/development assistance, employee assistance program (EAP) and discounted health insurance.

The salary for this position starts at $95,636 per annum (pro-rata for part time) plus superannuation.
