The role
We are seeking a Local Laws Officer (Foreshore and Audits) to join the Local Laws team. Reporting to the Local Laws Operations Coordinator, your role is to:
With an extensive foreshore the City of Kingston prides itself on offering its community and visitors safe and enjoyable access to this wonderful resource. This Local Laws role is critical in helping the Council through its busy summer period by patrolling the foreshore monitoring Council’s dog regulations to ensure we provide a wonderful level of service to the many different people accessing our foreshore.
The City also takes a proactive approach to auditing our Domestic Animals At 1994 functions. This role performs a key role in assisting the Council complete its audit program through these areas to ensure Council appropriately manages its statutory obligations.
We are looking to recruit someone who has a great knowledge in interpreting and implementing legislation and will enjoy ‘working in the field’ in high profile parts of our City. To be successful in the role you will need to have strong skills in working with our residents, visitors and business community who all interact regularly with this unique Local Laws role.
About you
A focus on encouraging compliance, you will have experience in interpreting a wide variety of legislation. Your creative approach when applying your knowledge of local laws issues and animal handling will be fundamental in achieving satisfactory resolutions and outcomes.
Working within our broad community, you will have a shared understanding of our community inspired values, a positive attitude and a strong commitment to customer service. Your high-level communication and problem-solving skills and ability to deal with new or difficult situations will be essential to your success in this diverse position.
A current full Victorian Drivers Licence is mandatory as you will be required to patrol by vehicle, on foot and side by side vehicle. You will need a flexible approach as you will undertake beach patrol duties over the summer period through to April, including rostered weekend work.

The salary for this position starts at $ $79,015 (Band 5) per annum plus superannuation.
