About the team

The Children’s Services Partnerships Team at the City of Kingston delivers inclusive, early years programs that support families and promote positive child development across the municipality.  

The team works in partnership with families, community organisations, and council services to improve access to high‑quality early childhood supports

About the role 

We are seeking passionate and flexible Casual Playgroup Facilitators to deliver inclusive, inclusive playgroup sessions to children aged 0–5 and their families.

The role focuses on delivering structured, developmentally appropriate sessions that support early learning, positive parenting, and social connection. Playgroup sessions incorporate the Smalltalk parenting program and are delivered across multiple community locations.

This role requires the ability to work independently, respond to diverse family needs, and maintain safe, inclusive environments in line with legislative and policy requirements.

Key Responsibilities                             

  • Plan and deliver playgroup sessions that support early learning, social development, and positive parent–child interactions
  • Facilitate Smalltalk-informed activities that promote child development and effective parenting practices
  • Create inclusive environments that respond to the cultural, social, and developmental needs of children and families
  • Build and maintain respectful, professional relationships with families and carers
  • Apply the Victorian Child Safe Standards to ensure child safety, wellbeing, and inclusion
  • Collaborate with council teams and external services to support family wellbeing and appropriate referrals
  • Provide on‑call cover for playgroup sessions across multiple locations within the municipality
 

Your Skills and Experience  

  • Qualifications and/or relevant experience in early childhood education, community services, family support, or a related field
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and evidence‑based parenting practices
  • Experience working with diverse families in community or early years settings
  • Ability to plan and deliver structured activities for children aged 0–5
  • Clear communication skills, including engaging with adults and children in group settings
  • Ability to work independently across different locations and adapt to changing session environments
  • Demonstrated understanding of child safety and wellbeing, including cultural safety for Aboriginal children and children from diverse backgrounds
  • Current Working with Children Check and Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
