About the team

The Vegetation and Compliance team is responsible for managing vegetation, planning compliance matters and construction management matters that shape Kingston’s built and natural environment. You’ll be part of a collaborative team supporting vegetation, planning compliance and construction management functions.

About this opportunity:

We are looking for a Vegetation & Compliance Administration Officer to provide high‑quality customer service and effective administrative support to the Vegetation and Planning Compliance teams. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for customer enquiries, supporting regulatory processes through accurate administration, application processing, and coordination of inspections and correspondence.

What you’ll deliver:                          

  • Provide professional first‑line customer service via counter, phone and written enquiries, resolving matters at first contact where possible
  • Help the team processing private tree removal applications, coordinating inspections, and assist with administrative task relating to permit decisions and appeals
  • Support planning compliance and construction management investigations through research, CRM logging, correspondence and file management
  • Maintain accurate records across multiple Council systems, including Pathway, TRIM, GIS, Nearmap and Microsoft Office
  • Assist with complaint management, Councillor requests and stakeholder updates. 
  • Conduct site inspections, as required, to collect relevant information that supports officers in responding to customer requests and progressing investigations or assessments. 
  • Contribute positively to team engagement, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives

What You’ll Bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in administration and customer service, providing timely and accurate advice
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage challenging or sensitive customer interactions
  • Proven ability to use administrative systems and software, including Microsoft Office and business databases
  • Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Previous experience in local government or a public sector environment (desirable)
  • An interest or understanding of vegetation management, planning compliance or regulatory processes (advantageous)
  • Post‑secondary qualifications (relevant degree or diploma in Planning, Landscaping or a related discipline highly regarded)
  • Plant identification knowledge or experience (highly regarded)
  • Previous experience within local government or a regulatory/compliance environment (highly regarded)
