About the team

An exciting opportunity exists to join Kingston City Council’s high performing Sportsgrounds and Reserves Team within the Open Space Department. This team plays a pivotal role delivering high quality maintenance and asset management across Kingston’s open spaces, with responsibilities spanning both programmed and reactive work.

About the role

The Reserves Coordinator drives the team to deliver efficient and responsive open space services. This hands-on role manages daily asset maintenance, customer requests, and works with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Supervising 11 staff and contractors across Reserve Response and Playground Maintenance, the Coordinator focuses on proactive upkeep and excellent customer service. Reporting to the Team Leader Sportsgrounds & Reserves, this role ensures well-maintained reserves and satisfied communities.

Key responsibilities include

  • Support the Team Leader Sportsgrounds & Reserves in supporting, motivating, and developing team members
  • Collaborate with the Sportsground Coordinator
  • Work closely with crew leaders to balance programmed and reactive workloads, meeting required LoS and stakeholder expectations
  • Coordinate the triage and scheduling of customer requests, maintaining responsiveness and high work standards
  • Conduct and document regular audits to ensure crew and contractor safety, OH&S compliance, and asset quality
  • Work collaboratively across the department and organisation
  • Continually review and improve systems to enhance team efficiency
  • Foster a customer-focused culture for responsive, professional service delivery

 Your Skills and Experience 

  • Tertiary qualification in Open Space management with relevant experience, or equivalent demonstrated leadership experience
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge in contemporary park and play asset management practices 
  • Experience in contract/contractor management
  • Experience in workload planning and scheduling
  • Proficient use in IT systems including mobile work scheduling technology
  • Completion of recognised industry courses (i.e. Playground Inspection/Audit Training)
