Join our team as our Librarian

Kingston Libraries spans 80+ staff, 8 branches, 376 hours of weekly service delivery, a million annual loans, over 2,000 programs/events and 400,000 visitors annually. There are three branch coordinators within the library leadership team – each responsible for 2-3 branches.

The City of Kingston Library Service operates eight public library branches, with major sites at Chelsea, Cheltenham, Parkdale and Westall, and minor sites at Clarinda, Dingley Village, Highett, and Patterson Lakes.

About the role

Kingston City Council is looking for a qualified librarian to join the Kingston Libraries team. This role requires you to move from across sites during some shifts.

What you’ll deliver:                          

As a Librarian with Kingston Libraries, your role is to:

  • Represent Kingston Libraries as the face of our library service and perform duties in a manner that exceeds expectations of both customers and the team
  • Customer service librarian duties in a busy and diverse public library service
  • Supervise and guide staff as ‘Senior on Duty’ as required
  • Undertake rostered customer service shifts in a team environment across all library sites, including weekdays, weekends and evenings, performing a range of tasks that support customers and our community
  • Actively promote and support services, events and programs that contribute to literacy and digital literacy development across the Library Service

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated skills in supporting reader advisory and digital literacy
  • A tertiary Degree, Masters or Graduate Diploma in library and information studies (eligible for Associate membership of ALIA)
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a team
  • A positive, enthusiastic and resilient attitude for working with diverse customers and staff in a front-facing team environment
