About the team

This is an amazing opportunity for ambitious engineering students to join our fun, energetic and well-respected Engineering Design team, within the Infrastructure Department at the City of Kingston.   You will also work closely with other areas of Council including Construction, Traffic & Transport, Environmental Planning, Maintenance, Development Engineering, Asset Management, Open Space and Active Kingston across a potential 3–4-year period during your engineering studies.

About the role

Due to several of our students graduating this year we are looking for motivated Student Civil Design Engineers to join our team.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing computer generated construction plans for civil engineering improvement projects such as footpaths, shared user paths, car parks, accessibility improvements, road and drainage upgrades using AutoCad and Civil Site Design.
  • Preparation of lease plans for Council buildings.
  • Calculating cost estimates and preparing quotation documents for construction projects.
  • Preparing project management plans and community information bulletins for civil projects.
  • Undertaking surveys as required, investigating drainage / flooding issues & assisting with organising maintenance works.
  • Liaising with service authorities and organising approvals.
  • Engaging Consultants to undertake survey and geotechnical investigations.
  • Engaging with other engineers, departments and the community on a range of engineering issues and preparing technical reports which identify improvements.

Your Skills and Experience

  • You are a first- or second-year student undertaking an undergraduate civil engineering degree in a Melbourne University
  •  Hold a valid Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with an ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • A person with excellent computer skills
  • Previous experience using CAD for preparation of civil design drawings would be highly regarded
